Anyone who knows my husband and I, they know we are just big kids. My husband and I grew up very differently.  My siblings and I are Navy brats, we moved around a lot, didn’t have a lot of fancy toys and at time just had each other - so we had to learn how to make fun at home using just our imagination.  We did things like make fake movie sets from moving boxes, living room campouts and game nights.  One favorite activity that Jarrard never got to experience was a blanket fort.  If you never got to experience a blanket fort as a child, it is a series of various blankets and sheets pinned together and propped using household items like chairs, tables, bookcases, you name it.

So for one New Year’s Eve, I took a spare room and made a large fort out of nearly every sheet and blanket in our house.  I struggled the entire day to get the room together while he was out working.  I attached the sheets and blankets together using safety pins and used everything I had in house to prop up the sheets and blankets. n the fort, I took our mattress and laid it on the floor (this was before we upgraded to the king size, I would have died if it wasn’t a full size).  I took our TV from the room and hooked it up to the PlayStation so we could watch Netflix movies all night.  Filled mason jars with all of the snacks and candy he likes – Oreos, Gummy Bears, M&Ms, and Skittles. I added champagne and favors to bring in the New Year.  I used safety pins to attach white twinkle lights to the inside of the fort to create a sweet romantic feel.  We stayed in the fort all night and enjoyed it so much we kept it up an additional day. Some people enjoy partying on New Year’s Eve but snuggling up with my lovey in a cozy fort was to this day our best New Year’s Eve to date.

Our little blanket fort. Not the prettiest, but cozy and fun just the same! (Yes that's The Burbs)
